PART II: Clients teach us how to become better leaders. Guiding blind para athlete, Shawn Cheshire, on our Grand Canyon Retreat was an honor. What happened👇
This is a 3-part series for motivation, teamwork, problem solving, and leadership.

IT’S THROUGH OUR DIFFERENCES THAT WE FIND OUR SIMILARITIES.
>> Reflecting on this retreat, the biggest gift for my clients was the opportunity to experience this canyon-and their lives-differently than ever before.
We “see” through our eyes, yet how many of us actually stop to take this world in?
• To “see” what’s around us?
• To “see” our clients, colleagues, and community?
• And to “see” our own accomplishments?
Walking through the canyon with my clients, we stopped quite a bit to describe the canyon to Shawn. What it looked like. The 20-layers of rock, varying colors, and many formations in front of us. Feeling the rock walls, the water of the Colorado River, the flowers and brush.
AS A TEAM, every client stepped up to guide through their eyes, their words, their touch.
I remember trying to describe to Shawn what I saw before me, and I was lost for words, which if you know me at all, is shocking! Shawn jokingly said, “You know, you suck at describing this. Give me something so I can imagine it!” She was right!
Though I’ve walked through this canyon hundreds of times, having to describe this space forced me to see it differently than I ever had before. It was hard!
TO BE A GREAT LEADER IS TO EMBRACE BOTH BEING A TEACHER, AND A STUDENT.
At one point, we blindfolded anyone who wanted to be and we led them down the trail, to show them what it was like. Both for the person who was guiding, and for the client who had to rely on their other senses besides sight. And, to rely on others.
5-days in that canyon that changed lives forever..
KEY TAKEAWAY: Trust and communication is key. You break that trust as a guide or leader, and you threaten to lose all.
Come back tomorrow for Part III.💥
